Kate Murray-Browne
I am an artist living in London. I studied English Literature at Cambridge University and Foundation Studies at Chelsea College of Art and Design. I’m based at Bow Arts Trust studios in East London.

My work explores the emotional resonance of objects and the borders between the animate and the inanimate. I collect objects – usually broken, missing a part or in some way functionless – and depict them in paintings, often in an unfamiliar setting. I also make works using the objects more directly, for example prints or textile pieces. The pieces squarely confront the uselessness of the object, while making something new from them – both memorialising and re-habilitating them, raising questions about memory and loss, and the ways we impress ourselves on the physical world.
